2022 AAUW Westerville Branch Scholarship Announcements

The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women has announced their 2022 scholarship winners. Each year the Westerville Branch gives a scholarship to senior young women who are graduating from the three Westerville high schools.

Westerville South High winner–Lydia Fyock

Lydia will be attending the University of Dayton, majoring in business/accounting.

Westerville Central High School winner–Taylor Hickman

Taylor will be attending Purdue Fort Wayne University, majoring in chemistry

Westerville North High School winner–Jolie Helt

Jolie will be attending Ohio University majoring in journalism and minoring in sports management (sports reporter)

May 2022 Meeting

Date: Thursday, May 5, 2022, 6:00 – 7:30 PM

Program: Our members will welcome our 2022 scholarship recipients and their parent/s at a reception in their honor.

Location: Church of the Messiah lounge, 52 N. State St., Westerville, OH 43082

Cost per member: $18.00

Dues for next year at $94.00 for a total cost of $112.00. Please make your check payable to AAUW, Westerville Branch and bring it to the reception. If you are not able to attend, checks may be mailed to our treasurer.

April 2022 Meeting

Date: April 14, 2022, 5:00 PM

Speaker: Chris Doolittle

Program: Container Gardening

Location: Church of the Messiah lounge, 51 North State Street, Westerville OH 43081

There will be a short business meeting following the program and officers will be elected. According to the by-laws, the offices of President, Vice President of Membership and Secretary are voted on in even-numbered years.

The program is about trafficking. Our speaker is Ruth Downing. She is a member of the MSN R Development and Forensic Nursing Network, Inc. She has an extensive background in working with trafficked victims. Please invite others to this meeting. It is information that we all need.

In February, our speaker from the Columbus Foundation was Alicia Szempruch. She shared information about the Vanguard Investment Fund that is currently used to grow our Scholarship Fund. After her presentation, it was decided that the Finance Committee, made up of the president, vice presidents of programs, the treasurer and scholarship chair, would look into the possibility of changing how our investment is allocated. The committee will present their recommendations as part of the business meeting following the program for a vote.

December 2021 Meeting

Program: The Westerville Branch decided that instead of sharing a book the members had read during the past year, they would read How the Word Is Passed by Clint Smith and discuss the book as a group.

Westerville Branch, AAUW Cheese Sale

The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women is once again selling Amish cheese and fudge this fall. Our branch provides some financial support for a girl from each of Westerville’s middle schools to attend BeWise Camp, a science and math camp. The cheese is hormone & pesticide free. Twelve ounce blocks are $6.00. Two pound blocks are $6.00 per pound. Fudge is available in 1 pound blocks and is $15.50 per pound. Our cheese sale coordinator is Dorothy Pilcher, 165 Mainsail, Westerville, OH, 43081, Phone 614-895-3919. Orders should be emailed or mailed to Dstuff@yahoo.com on or before Oct. 11th, 2021. Cheese orders may be picked up between Nov. 6th and 11th.
