Lead Pastor at Church of the Messiah Katy Wheat Borhauer spoke with our group in the evening on April 11. She shared how she has benefitted from things she has done for herself and also from the input of many other people. She shared that one of the most important things for her was learning how to take feedback and criticism and channel that into opportunities to learn and grow

Program: Beth will share her life story and stories of distinguishing Westerville women of the past including Black Librarian Minerva France.

Beth Weinhardt described four women of Westerville who have influenced its history. She told us about Kate Winter Hanby, Benjamin Hanby’s wife, Ben Hanby’s sister, Amanda Hanby Billheim, Minera France and Dacia Shoemaker. She talked a little it about her background.

Program: Kathy has served in many positions on the City Council, including Vice Mayor and the Council representative to the Westerville Planning Commission. Kathy was recognized as the 2023 Champion of Westerville.

Kathy Cocuzzi entertained the group with stories and photos of her tenure as a Westerville City Council member. She spent her career serving the city of Westerville.

Speaker: Westerville Author and Educator Phyllis Toth-Magold
Author of “A Beast No More” and sequel “The Treasured Egg”. Awarded local, state and international recognition for her fiction and nonfiction writing and work in education, including curriculum development and archival writing for Wynton Marsalis Enterprises and Jazz at Lincoln Center. She is a retired English teacher and administrator from the Westerville School District.

Westerville author and educator Phyllis Toth-Magold entertained the Westerville gathering with recollections of her school days at an all-girls school, her friendship and collaboration with Winton Marsalis, her teaching experiences, and so much more. She briefly described her two published books, A Beast No More and the sequel The Treasured Egg as well as her plans for new projects.

End of Summer Friendship Supper
The Westerville Branch started their progressive supper at Gwen Nichol’s home with appetizers and then progressed to the home of Janet Bix for salads and desserts. The meeting was attended by 14 members and 2 guests. The new program books were passed out as well as the cheese orders.
2023 AAUW Westerville Branch Scholarship Announcements
The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women has announced their 2023 scholarship winners. Each year the Westerville Branch gives a scholarship to senior young women who are graduating from the three Westerville high schools.
